Ballet in Bloom is a new, delightful garden-themed fundraiser featuring art, dance, music, and brunch to benefit Ballet Tucson. This entertaining “must do” event will be held on Sunday, May 7 at the beautiful Skyline Country Club and promises to be an exciting gathering for art lovers, event planners, and garden enthusiasts of every kind.

Festivities

  • Silent auction of one-of-a-kind works by local artists, home goods, jewelry, and garden art
  • “Mystery gift boxes” available for purchase
  • Live demonstrations from renowned floral artist Jacque Askren (Askren & Sons) and Sheri Herrera de Frey (Arbico Organics)
  • Live musical entertainment by the Southwest String Quartet
  • Ballet performance of excerpts from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Ballet Tucson’s talented professional dancers

Live Demonstrations

Jacque Askren (Askren & Sons) will share simple tricks and techniques of combining fresh botanicals with permanent florals to create beautiful arrangements that look fresh from the garden.

Bio: Jacque resides in Tucson, Arizona and has been in the floral design industry for 29 years. Jacque works with both fresh and permanent botanicals. In 1999, she transitioned into the family business, Askren and Sons, as their lead designer, where she specializes in display and permanent botanicals. Jacque’s passion for fresh flowers in her early design career transformed into a love for designing with permanents and textiles. She also enjoys educating and sharing her design techniques with others who share the same passion. Jacque has received multiple awards and recognition throughout her design career. She placed in the California Top Ten, has been Arizona State Floral Designer of the Year several times, and has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers. She continues to amaze people throughout the industry with her unique design techniques and talent.

Sheri Herrera de Frey (Arbico Organics) will talk about the wonderment of insects and “good bugs”! Learn how to use beneficial insects and organisms (fun, affordable, and natural) to control pests in your garden.

Bio: Sheri Herrera de Frey is co-owner and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Arbico Organics, a company dedicated to providing over 2,000 natural products for organic homes, gardens, yards, pets and farms since 1979. Sheri has been a pioneer of organic gardening and farming and a world leader in the production of beneficial insects. She is also an author, eco-preneur, composter, gardener, vermiculturist, horticulturist, musician, and proud Ballet Tucson board member for more than 10 years.
