Filipe Aragão began his ballet training at the age of nineteen with Studio de Dança Luzia Aureliano in São Luís, Brazil. After receiving a scholarship, Aragão continued his ballet training under the direction of Darla Hoover with Ballet Academy East in New York City, New York. During his time dancing at Ballet Academy East, Aragão worked with renowned teachers and choreographers, such as Wendy Whelan, Ashley Bouder, and Claudia Schreier.
Aragão joined Huntsville Ballet Company in 2017, where he danced under the direction of Phillip Otto. In 2018 he joined Utah Metropolitan Ballet where he performed works by George Balanchine, Heather Gray, Alan Hineline, and Jacqueline Colledge. During his time at Utah Metropolitan Ballet, he choreographed two ballets for the second company that were showcased at the Ballet Alliance Festival and one for the main company. Aragão joined Indianapolis Ballet in 2020 where he danced ballets created by Victoria Lyras, Kristin Toner, and Ramon Flowers. This season will be Aragão’s first season with Ballet Tucson.
We asked Filipe: What piece or concert are you most looking forward to in the 2022-2023 season and why?
“In Creases and Allegro Brillante. Both pieces have such exciting and high-energy music. Allegro Brillante is just beautiful and has such fun musicality and partnering sections. In Creases has a very interesting movement and style. These are the types of ballet that are so challenging and rewarding to dance and they remind me why I love being a professional dancer.”
